If you’re a NextUp Affiliate Partner (catchy name right?) that means you’re set up to earn revenue whenever your unique link is used.
Promoting your link in the right way at the right time is a sure-fire way to earn big, but like all marketing, whether you’re promoting yourself or your business, you get out what you put in.
If you’re a NextUp Partner, then we’re invested in helping you succeed! So we’ve put together 5 top tips to help you promote your link and maximise your profits.
1. Be: Transparent
This one is important so we’ve put it right at the top! If you’re a NextUp affiliate partner, you’re essentially recommending shows for your audience to enjoy, and being paid a commission to do so.
Readers are savvy and can spot an affiliate/marketing link from a mile away. And if you break their trust by promoting something you don’t believe in, or seemingly take advantage of them for monetary gains, you’ve lost yourself a supporter.
So being open, upfront, and transparent about what you’re doing and why is the only way to go if you want to keep that trust and build on that relationship.
Promoting your show and earning revenue from it is essential as a comedian, so don’t hide that fact from your audience. They know they’re supporting you by using your affiliate links. Make them happy and eager to do so.
Don’t forget, we have hundreds of amazing stand-up shows to choose from, so you’re not just promoting yourself but all the other comics there too!
2. Do: Recommend shows to your audience and help them discover amazing acts
We all know how many incredible comedians there are on NextUp. And one of the biggest draws we have as a platform is the Discovery element, allowing new viewers around the world to watch and enjoy a comics’ work for the very first time.
By recommending a selection of shows to your audience, you’re creating the opportunity for them to discover new acts, helping to grow that acts fanbase!

3. Be: Informative
When you recommend a show via your affiliate link, your audience is trusting your opinion and actioning something based on that opinion. Whether it’s for your own show or someone else’s, your audience is trusting you to provide a good recommendation.
That’s why it’s important to add value to your recommendations by making them helpful, useful and informative.
It’s not enough to simply ask them to sign up and watch, you’ve got to let them know why. What’s great about the show that the audience might not know? Is there a backstory behind the show that could add to the enjoyment? Was there something special about the show that meant a lot to you?
Being informative about a show, talking about how and why it was created not only encourages more clicks, but helps create a personal rapport with your audience.
4. Do: Relive the night with your fans
If you’re a comedian on NextUp, do you remember how it felt finishing that final line at the end of your recording? Or the feeling you had when you saw your show on the platform for the first time?
These are huge milestones in a comedy career and something to be proud of as a performer!
And something your audience of fans will want to celebrate! Build that relationship with your fans by giving them a chance to get involved in something that’s important to you and let them share the good vibes. Here are a few ideas on how to do that;
- Celebrate the anniversary of your show recording/launching and invite your fans to watch it on the same day with you (or a watch party)
- Throwback to an older or debut show and let your fans see how much has changed
- Shout out about the show and ask who was there on the night and relive the show with the actual audience

5. Be: Patient
As of 2019, the global estimated worth of affiliate marketing is around $12 billion, with the UK market alone worth an estimated $1.7 billion.
There’s huge potential out there, but it can take time to build a successful process that encourages audiences to click your affiliate link.
Being patient and assessing what works vs what doesn’t is the best way to ensure longterm success. Affiliate programs aren’t a get rich quick plan and, while it may take a few tries to find the right approach that works for your audience, that doesn’t mean there isn’t one.
Try different methods and don’t be discouraged if a particular approach didn’t work as well as you’d hoped. There will always be other opportunities!
