About
One of Australia’s most exciting stand-up, character and banjo-playing comedians, Anne Edmonds (“Eddo”) burst onto the scene back in 2010 as a national finalist in Australia’s largest amateur comedy competition RAW Comedy. Going viral as the You Tube sensation Raylene the Racist, and acclaimed as a performer and director of the award winning True Australian Patriots, Anne has gone on to bring her sharp-witted characters, silly songs and grin-inducing world view to TV, comedy clubs and festivals in Australia and around the world.
After a sold-out season at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Anne took her show, You Know What I’m Like, to London’s Soho Theatre in 2016. She later received a nomination for the biggest award in Australian live comedy, the Barry Award, for her show That’s Eddo-tainment. As well as stirring up a storm on the live circuit, the scandi-noir influenced comedy series she created, wrote and starred in for ABC TV, The Edge of the Bush, debuted in September 2017 with plaudits from fans and critics alike. Meanwhile, her appearances as beauty and fashion expert Helen Bidou on TV show Get Krack!n have a engendered a cult like status and a new late-night live offering from the character in her Barry nominated Enter The Spinnaker Lounge.
Watch Anne Edmonds: That’s Eddo-Tainment
Relishing in humiliation and despair in the most comedic of ways, Aussie Anne’s bawdy, self deprecating hour is punctuated with visual punchlines and satirical stories. From sex and dating to her time working in the mental health sector, via her rubber-faced, triple chinned alter ego “Bernadette”, it’s a right eddo-taining ride mate.

Bio
Taking up comedy fairly late at the age of 29, Anne tells TheAuReview.com “I had a job and career up to that point as well as money. Suddenly I found myself on my 33rd birthday on this floor in someone’s house wondering what decision I had.”
Growing up in Essendon, Melbourne provided Anne with much material for her writing and comedy characters. She tells Junkee.com “Middle Australia is basically where I’m from, that suburban white Australia. You always end up making comedy about the things that you know about, but also there is a dark undercurrent in that segment of society.”
Her background also influenced her work as a member of the “True Australian Patriots”, an extreme right-wing parody group, along with fellow comedians Greg Larsen and Damien Power. She elaborates – “True Australian Patriots is a bit different, but that kind of sinister undercurrent of racism and white male aggression is something that’s come up for me a few times in my comedy. I’m always interested in how middle Australia presents itself as perfect and serene — that Neighbours kind of thing — and I’m interested in what’s going on underneath the surface of anything that looks sunny and shiny.” As seen on their incendiary Facebook page, on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering and a number of Australian comedy festivals the act were awarded awarded the Director’s Choice Award at The Melbourne Comedy Festival.
Following the international success of her solo show You Know What I’m Like, Anne’s follow up show That’s Eddo-tainment was chosen to be recorded for the inaugural series of the ABC’s Next Gen comedy specials. After starring on the Oxfam Gala and touring extensively around Australia, she took her next solo, No Offence, None Taken to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and London’s Soho Theatre. She also was selected to perform at the Just For Laughs All Star Gala in Sydney, alongside some of the biggest names in the comedy world. In 2018 she started the year off with a bang, hosting at the MICF Opening Night All Stars Super Show.
Anne continues to be a familiar face on Australian TV screens and her self penned series The Edge of the Bush, with echoes of Kath and Kim, French and Saunders, Nighty Night and even The League of Gentleman, was deemed “ABC”s most original comedy in years”.
