‘Politics nerd’, Gráinne Maguire is a prolific, critically acclaimed triple threat, a stand-up comedian, comedy writer and actor.
She has been performing stand up for 10 years and in 2013 was awarded the Radio 4 comedy writer’s bursary
She has taken five acts to Edinburgh, has appeared as a comedian on several BBC television and radio programmes and has written for The Independent and Evening Standard and topical jokes for popular Channel 4 and Radio 4 shows including, The Last Leg, 8 Out of 10 Cats. She also hosts a popular topical podcast What Has The News Ever Done For Me?
Gráinne’s comedy weaves intelligent political observations with anecdotal trials and tribulations of life, dating, family, feminism all with warmth and deftness of a performer who knows how to tell a story.

Born into a big Irish family with 60 cousins, Gráinne was determined to stand out with stand-up.
A love of Father Ted and Blackadder tickled the comedy chops and after seeing a Sean Hughes at the age of 13 the dream of being a comic was born.
A 10-year career has seen her write and perform on a stage, television and radio. She’s a regular at Edinburgh fringe festivals, having entertained a discerning international comedy audience with 5 shows.
In 2010 she has performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival with her show “We Need to Talk About Bonnets”.

She has also performed at The Bulmers Galway Comedy Festival and The Cats Laugh Festival in Kilkenny.
In 2013 Gráinne was awarded the Radio 4 comedy writer’s bursary in 2013, a scheme through which emerging comedy writers work in-house at the BBC Radio Comedy department for a year, contributing to a range of comedy output as well as script-editing sketch-shows and sitcoms.
