The shows we film are performed by some of the most exciting and inventive comics working on the circuit today. As performers, their work isn’t just a way to make money, but a craft and skill that takes years if not decades to refine.
That’s why we believe every act should be paid a fair amount for the work they provide, which is why we split any revenue made by NextUp evenly with the comedians 50/50.
How it works
We split any revenue made from NextUp equally with the acts, proportioned fairly based on the minutes watched annually (so the more minutes of an act’s show that are watched, the higher the percentage of the overall ‘revenue pot’ they get).
This not only allows us to fairly pay the acts for their work, but also allows us to further support and develop their career, providing a stable revenue stream that isn’t reliant on booking in gigs or selling tickets.
Why do we do this?
We’re a streaming platform, but we also champion and support live comedy as much as we can. And while we can’t exactly put a bucket on the door at the end of every show you watch, we still want to provide the same or similar experience for the comics we work with – a digital pay what you want of sorts.
We also don’t restrict acts who want to sell hard copies (USB or DVD) of their shows independently without NextUp taking a cut.
Plus, we actively pursue 3rd party distribution deals for the shows we film, putting their work in front of more people, enhancing their profile and raising their rev share year on year.
