Bio
Buckinghamshire born Alexis read Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Warwick but, he tells thereadinglists.com, spent far more time “dabbling with drama societies…Having been a lifelong fan of comedy, I found myself part of a sketch group there. Mucking about in the students’ union was one thing, but heading up to Edinburgh Fringe was life-changing.”
In 2003 Alexis moved to London to perform on the UK comedy circuit. Whilst setting up life as a gigging comedian in the big smoke, Alexis co-created the Falling Down With Laughter Comedy Club in London Bridge which he ran successfully there for 7 years.
Alongside making his mark with french alter ego Marcel Lucont, Alexis’ debut solo in 2008, A R#ddy Brief History of Swearing, won Dubus a Three Weeks Editors’ award. In 2010, Alexis was back at the Edinburgh Fringe with a “sociologicinformocomedic exploration of what lies beneath our clothes” in his follow up: A Surprisingly Tasteful Show About Nudity.
His subsequent solo based around a series of true travel tales, Alexis Dubus: Cars And Girls, was listed in Chortle’s Ten Most Memorable Shows of 2014. In 2016 he returned to Edinburgh again this time with a lyrical storytelling show ”mixin iffy wordplay and first-rate bullshit” with Alexis Dubus vs The World.
As a stand-up comic, Alexis has appeared on John Bishop‘s 2014 Christmas Show, Russell Howard’s Good News and numerous stand-up shows on Comedy Central. His engaging style translates well across the airwaves too, with appearances on BBC Radio 4 Extra in 4 Extra Stands Up, BBC Radio 1‘s Phil And Alice’s Comedy Lounge, and as host of the Comedy Cul-de-Sac Podcast, in which established stand-ups talk about how they’ve survived comedy death on stage. If that’s not enough you can also see Alexis being the Office Dick alongside fellow comedians Tiff Stevenson, Maddy Anholt and Funmbi Omotayo, experience his London Traffic Warden nature poem, or hear him talk about his career to date on the popular podcast Comedian’s Comedian hosted by Stuart Goldsmith.
