About
Maverick Aussie Bec Hill has gained a loyal following down under as well as in her adoptive UK home thanks to a string of award-winning solo shows, memorable YouTube videos and being named in both Time Out and The Telegraph’s Top 10 funniest comedians on Twitter.
With a unusual talent for ‘paper puppetry” Bec’s crafty stand up routines, reminiscent of a nostalgic childhood pop-up book or the Japanese storytelling technique of Kamishibai, saw her become known as a truly unique act on the circuit.
The founder of London’s only pun-based comedy night, Pun Run, Bec is equally becoming known for her brilliant storytelling and physical comedy. Her writing credits are impressive, with her one-liners featuring in “best joke” lists for The Telegraph, Dave, The Guardian, The Independent, Daily Record and Buzzfeed. She has written for The Amazing World of Gumball, Bluestone 42 and The Now Show and is one half of the award-winning, critically-acclaimed comedy double-act, Bec & Tom.
No stranger to TV screens herself, Bec has co-hosted Sky’s “DC Fancast”, appeared on several series’ of CBBC panel show The Dog Ate My Homework as well as “Dara O’Briain’s Go 8 Bit”on Dave. Her recent directorial debut for short animation “Scoring Pointes” recently aired on Disney XD. And if you haven’t come across the rejected tampon ad of hers that went viral in the summer of 2010 – well quite frankly where were you?!

Inventive, a little shambolic, and very funny. The joy is well and truly Bec in town.

Bio
Growing up in Adelaide, Australia, Bec’s love of performing was first channelled through a passion for acting at High School. But it wasn’t until her final year that her drama teacher suggested she pursue more comedic ambitions. So at the age of 18, Bec took a year out and entered the Australian stand-up competition Raw Comedy, making the 2006 national finals. One of the judges – Justin Hamilton – saw her potential and took Bec under his wing, helping her shape her comedy and becoming an influential mentor. And the rest she says is history…
Within two years Bec was performing her solo debut at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival with “If You Can Read This My Cape Fell Off”. The show won her a Critic’s Choice Award as well as a plethora of positive reviews, and Bec was becoming noted for her unstoppable energy, being “adorably cute with a wicked edge”. Buoyed by success, she voyaged to the UK to take part in the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 . Within 5 years of nurturing a cult following, and having received glorious reviews for her Edinburgh shows from the likes of Chortle and The Scotsman, Bec set her sights on producing an award-winning show at the Edinburgh Festival. The hard work and talent displayed in Bec Hill in… Ellipsis paid off and she deservedly picked up the inaugural Barry Award for Best Show, set up by comedian Barry Ferns and voted on by other festival performers.. Recognised as a Fringe favourite who was widely loved but having never till that point won an award; her response to the win was given in typical Be Chill style – “My whole show is about how I’ve never won an award – and now you have all screwed it!”. This was also the year in which Bec proved to be no flash in the pan, winning the Golden Loo Seat Award for the Nation’s Favourite Toilet Joke. The accolades continued in other areas too, when her children’s show with Tom Goodliffe – Bec And Tom’s Awesome Laundry scooped a Three Weeks Editor’s Award. These days, Bec continues to impress on the live circuit and has set up a bi-monthly pun-based comedy night called Pun-Run, which has become a huge hit with seasoned comics and punters alike.
