Self professed working class, Lancashire-born millennial, Brennan Reece found his passion for performing as a child actor from the age of 4. Having no idea that comedy was a thing people would employ you to do his varied talents saw him make the inevitable transition from an early career in theatre and film, to live stand up.
In 2016 Brennan’s perfectly pitched debut show EVERGLOW was recognised for its heart-rending honesty and cheerful warmth and saw him deservedly nominated for BEST NEWCOMER at the 2016 Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Born in 1987 in Manchester as Paul Brennan, a combination of his Mum and Dads surnames gave this cheeky comic his stage name Brennan Rees. As a child actor he made his first TV appearance aged just 6 years old in an episode of the popular british TV drama HEARTBEAT. With the acting bug having taken hold, Brennan went on to train at the Birmingham School of Acting, where he believes the range of skills he learned there “opened so many doors”.
In 2008, and within months of graduating, Brennan had landed his first role as Dexie in the feature film SOULBOY, a coming-of-age drama set in the 1970s Northern Soul underground music scene. He continued to develop his acting chops over the following years, performing in the renowned 24hr Plays at The Old Vic Theatre, London as well singing and dancing in the national tour of the musical Quadrophenia, based on The Who’s 1973 rock opera of the same name. During these post-graduate years, Brennan was also honing a talent for creating his own material and began experimenting with stand-up at home crowd gigs in the North West. Gradually spreading his wings from the local circuit to touring all over the country with his own material, his popularity in the live comedy sphere started to pay off, and pay the bills too. By 2010 he’d been crowned MANCHESTER NEW COMEDIAN OF THE YEAR. Zoom forward another 5 years and more accolades were in store with Brennan laughing his way to the winners podium at the ENGLISH COMEDIAN OF THE YEAR awards. Shortly after, his breakthrough show EVERGLOW gave him the highly sought after BEST NEWCOMER nomination in Edinburgh, and it’s fair to say his true calling was fully realised!
